In the March E-NEWS, we alerted you of the then pending SSA e-file mandate requiring organizations filing more that 10 returns or statements, to do so electronically.
On March 25, 2023 the Social Security Administration updated how you sign up for a Business Services Online Account. Â You will need to establish an ID.ME account credential. Refer to the documentation on the updated Registration process on SSA.Gov Business service online webpage Business Services Online (ssa.gov).
ID.me & Affordable Care Act Information Returns (AIR)
The IRS also transitioned to using ID.ME for their online Air systems where you log in to upload your 1094 and 1095 forms. Refer to the IRS webpage on the Affordable Care Act Information Returns for more information: https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/affordable-care-act-information-returns-air
In advance of the upcoming Tax season and to avoid any delays due to last minute credential registration, GMS highly recommends that you establish your ID.ME account as soon as possible.
How to Register for an ID.me Account
ID.me is a secure online identity verification service that can be used to access a variety of government and private sector websites and services. To register for an ID.me account, follow these steps:

Go to the ID.me website and click on the “Create Account” button.

Enter your email address and choose a password.

Click on the checkbox to accept id.me terms and conditions and privacy policy.

Click on the “Create Account” button.
Once you have created your account, you will need to verify your identity. ID.me offers a variety of ways to verify your identity, including:

A government-issued ID and a selfie (highly recommended) In our research this method of verification was quite timely. You will be required to upload pictures of the front and back of your ID, Take a live picture and validate your identification by participating in a video call confirmation process.

A credit report
-
A utility bill
-
A bank statement
Once your identity has been verified, you will be able to use your ID.me account to access the websites and services that require it.

Here are some additional tips for registering for an ID.me account:

Use a strong password that is unique to your ID.me account.

Do not share your password with anyone.

Keep your password confidential.

Be aware of phishing scams that may try to steal your ID.me account information.
If you have any questions about registering for an ID.me account, you can contact ID.me customer support, or Business Service online at 1-800-772-6270 to speak with a Customer service.
Attention 1099 and 1098 e-Filers!!
Your FIRE Transmitter Control Code (TCC) May no longer be valid!!
Attention 1099 and 1098 e-filers! TCC applications made prior to September 26, 2021 were required to resubmit a new application by August 1, 2023 in order for your to retain your old Transmitter Control Code.
If you did not resubmit your application by August 1,2023, your IRS Fire TCC is no longer valid.
Prior to September 26, 2021, you did not have to validate your identity to obtain a TCC code but now you do. Any fire TCC without a completed IR Application will not be available to you for e-file. You will have to request a new fire TCC and the IRS says that you need to allow 45 days for processing.
Log on to the IR Application for TCC page and sign in with your ID.ME account and complete your application.

Submit your application for a new TCC now, to avoid delays in the upcoming tax season.
